The exhibition begins an exploration of natural and artificial structures on a micro-scale through the use of scientific images. By revealing the elements that maintain life we ask how do these structures shape our understanding of the world around us and within our bodies. Stepping away from the methodical connotation of structural organization the exhibit culminates in a presentation from an artist collective. They challenge the notion of whether form needs to solely follow function, and test the boundaries of whether structures can be adaptable to novel ideas, or they always must be destroyed and built anew.

The artworks in the Promega Art+Science exhibition excel at powerful storytelling. The stories, originally seeded within the scientific domain, expand out on their journey using diverse methodologies from the sciences and the arts - some more familiar as microscopy/photography, while others unique - as sculptural tissue culturing and paper and ink development. While each image culminates in a different feeling, at times pensive, at times fun, and thought provoking, altogether the collection is a testament that the sciences and the arts can bind forces and deliver strong factual and emotionally charged messages.
The Promega Art + Science exhibition is a celebration of the intersection between art and science, showcasing a collection of inspiring artworks by scientists from across Switzerland. Science is inherently creative and stimulates the imagination and this exclusive art exhibition during Ilmac 2023 aims to deepen our appreciation for the beauty that research unearths. The exhibition is a collaboration between Ilmac and Promega.
